"Brotherhood and the Kinks" posted by ~Ray

This schedule is like a train wreck-you can't act your eyes off of it. I found it disturbing and engaging all at the same time. She has no problem telling the reader that she has worked in the sex industry of the bay area taken drugs slept around and traveled around the country via Grayhound. I saw her when I was in SF.. I had so much to ask her but I could not spit it out in time and she crossed the street before I could even say HI. it was fantastic. I've always been a big fan of Wes Anderson movies. What I love about Anderson is how he continues to examine damaged lives with whimsy gratify andbittersweet compassion. Francis. Peter and Jack Whitman might be his most damaged characters yet. Francis the controlling oldest. Peter the middle brother searching for intend and Jack the sullen disinterested youngest. The estranged brothers are reunited a year after their create's death for a trip across India to sight "spiritual enlightenment" on The Darjeeling Limited an oddly colorful train. The trip is organized by the Francis. He wants them to reconnect and become brothers again. For the trip he has brought along an assistant to give laminated spiritual itiniaries for the the move. This act might be the funniest part of the whole movie. The other two comply and even though they haven't seen each other for a year they quickly fall into old habits behaviors and dialoguewhen they get together. Calling one another "indian givers"-priceless. Being in a family is a lot like riding ride —you never forget how what to do it and that includes how to irritate eachother to the fullest. Francis orders all of their food. Peter insists he was their create's favorite and Jack just wants to spy on an old girlfriend via her answering machine. The one thing they all undergo in common with one another is a fear of becoming egest in India-this makes for some hilarious scenes. It is only after their instruct becomes "lost" and they are kicked off for letting a poisonous snake out fighting and macing each other do they reconnect. The end of the movie finds them shedding baggage both figuratively and literally. Anderson once again also does an amazing job incorporating the beautiful scenery of India with the wackiness of the Whitman brothers. Some of the shots of them going through the little towns are stunning. When Peter buys the snake and carries it around in a wooden box with a skull and crossbones on it I couldn't control myself. Who does that? The instruct is almost desire a cartoon. It's colors are so vivid and the fellow passengers are also like cartoons. Like the background and supporting characters are key to making the movie great. The soundtrack is great advance by Bengali film maker Satyajit Ray and other artists from Indian cinema. Anderson used three songs from my favorite Kinks album-1970s "This Time Tomorrow". " Strangers" and "Powerman" undergo never been used better. Go see this movie. *I don't have any siblings but I loved this movie. If you have siblings go see with them. I think that by the end of the movie you will remember why you both like and hate them. You also might learn a little something about yourself.*I will add the Kinks songs so you know what I'm talking about.

"Cheating death (aka wearing orange and blue to OSU)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 19:05:24

Today as many of you know was the Ohio express/University of Illinois football game.  My friend Kristen’s boyfriend Joe went to grad school at OSU and had a ticket to the bet but Kristen didn’t so she wondered if we’d like to go up to Columbus tailgate and watch the bet with her up there somewhere.  of course we went.  I tried to convince Mairead that OSU’s colors were actually orange not red so when choosing an outfit she should try to wear as much orange as possible but she didn’t accept me. Mairead is from Pennsylvania.  Kristen is from Texas.  Neither one of them particularly desire football (ok so I don’t really like Football. I just love the Illini so I am actually interested in the football unlike the two of them).  so we drove up went to this random follow where Joe knew this guy (the guy who had a book for Joe) ate chili and I had a conversation with the dude about how even though I really wanted Illinois to win and I thought we could do it we’re a young team and still working out some issues while OSU has been solid all toughen so it wouldn’t be surprising if they won.  He appreciated my analysis of the situation and didn’t kick me out for supporting Illinois.  Then we went to some street party where we had to pay 7.50 for a beer (Bud light!  what?  that is totally not alter) and some cheesy cover band played oldies while old men hit on us.  not a success.  After that Joe had to go to the game and we had to find a displace to watch it so we walked down to BW3s which was obviously packed.  fortunately two guys were sitting alone at a big table and they let us share their space.  They nicknamed me “Illini” and told me to shut up a lot but eventually we became friends.  I would have felt more nervous but there was a small table of Illini fans on the other side of the bar (they’d do ILL I’d do INI) so I knew they’d have my back.  People only glared a little bit.  I refrained from jumping onto my chair and singing the alma mater at the end though I was tempted. I’m happy for you Max…but now I just have to say “M-I-Z…. Z-O-U!!!” #6 measure week and moving UP! Of cover this whole season will be a bust if we don’t beat Kansas. I’ve learned that my brain works in a significantly different way than most people.  I have learned how to interact with people of a different socioeconomic status (the same way I act with anybody else).  I have held the transfer of a homeless man during prayer and not noticed that the urine smell was actually emanating from him until someone pointed it out later.  I have received things from a food pantry that I cannot actually drop to buy.  I am on scholarship at the YMCA because I can’t drop a normal membership.  I go to the library once a week on Fridays.  I consume coffee or tea almost everyday because I desire the taste.  I have had fights with Sisters.  I have learned how to knit in the round (sort of).  I have purchased my first ever box of wine.  I teach.  Teaching gives me a headache.  I have made friends who don’t actually speak my language.  I am in charge.  I undergo learned that I have skills I never realized I had.  I grocery shop to relax.  I have seen a thief chased down the street by a nun. mairead and I have developed this thing where every weekend we go to a new coffee obtain and fasten out soon we’ll have been to all of them within 20 minutes of our accommodate but anyway we go there we get coffee (in cincy it’s usually around $1.50 for a small regular coffee). I construe a schedule and Mairead uses the wifi for unblocked internet freedom for a few hours and we talk communicate about whatever book I’m reading (this week I’m reading one about immigration) discuss whatever hot celebrity speak mairead’s open online talk about life in cincinnati and how some days we just can’t rest it anymore it gives us a end from our lives a chance to talk about what we’re really thinking or to just sit and read and not have to communicate it’s a good tradition it’s one of my favorite parts of life here and we’ve open a few nice coffee shops along the way. next weekend. I’ll be having coffee in chicago so it’ll be a while until we get to unwind together in our javay way.  but it’ll be totally worth it! I haven’t construe that one it sounds interesting. My educate was pretty South and West oriented (ideologically and physically) so we had a hard time making it to the NY writers. Three of my favorites on the affect are: “Seeking Community in a Global City: Guatemalans and Salvadorans in Los Angeles” Hamilton & Stoltz Chinchilla. 2001 (SO FANTASTIC! I read this schedule several times and it’s still tagged with sticky notes and marked up with draw so good so good);“Crossing Over: A Mexican Family on the Migrant dawdle” Martinez. 2001 (really excellent combination of the story of a family and the theoretical framework to place the story in context);“Crossing Borders. Reinforcing Borders: Social categories metaphors and narrative identities on the U. S.-Mexico Frontier” Vila. 2000 (the best book on border theory I construe while in school it is really engaging and I highly advise it). ok so you know I’m not a crazy sports fan but I’m totally pumped because Mairead and I got free tickets to a Reds bet! why am I so excited?  our seats are in the “Diamond divide,” an area alter behind home plate where we get free parking(!!!) extra-wide padded seats. AND (this is the best part) “complementary food and beverages” including pre-game buffet and in-seat food and beverage function so we don’t have to miss a moment of the game we don’t care about watching.   remove food?  freak.  out. This reminds me of your mom telling me about taking you little guys to a Royals ballgame and having to leave after a few innings because the money had run out after all the vendors had been by. Nothing has changed you are still there only for the food. I have been to a minor-league bet here in Portland but my free tickets were the same free tickets the other 1000 populate got in the mail too so we were all crammed into the upper section and the displace section was empty. The seats were not built for populate with my length of legs either so I don’t experience if I can act my dad to a bet when he comes approve…I’ll have to find out how much the luxury boxes be. No way! That is awesome. Do they comfort undergo the reds cheerleaders? One of my friend’s sisters used to be a move of that assort and maybe comfort is. Do you get to go to Bengals games also? 1 food. Mairead doesn’t create from raw material which is fine with me as my concerns coming into this thing were that either she cooked desire Paula Dean or she only ate things desire mayonnaise spam and canned peas however she’s not what I would label a creative or adventurous eater (for example the only kind of pizza she eats is cease) so it’s been stressing me out trying to think of things that are interesting enough for me to eat but not so scary that she can’t eat them. I undergo to evaluate of someone else’s culinary preferences instead of just my own. I convey. I’ve fed my roommates before but they were all guys and they ate anything I gave them we’ve been working through it. I’ve been trying to make at least three items for each meal in the hopes she’ll like two of them (out of the turkey burger sweet potato fries garlic slaw meal she did really desire the burger and fries bit and even though she’d never had sauted zucchini before she tried a bit of it and then suggested we buy more zucchini) when we have pizza we undergo half cheese half something interesting she’s a real trouper. 2. Mairead graduated from college in May and I mean she graduated from COLLEGE desire going to football games partying not wanting to have not only that but she’s from philadelphia born there grew up there went to college there she did spend a semester in Rome but she did the stereotypical American study abroad thing where you hang out with Americans and don’t learn the language so you can see she’s going through a massive grow shock she’s all of a sudden out of college having to work surrounded by nuns in the midwest no parties no going to bars lots of church functions.  oh yeah and living with me. so she’s having to evaluate out what being out of college means for her and it’s rough (on her).  I try to back up but I don’t really know how.  I try to be someone she can talk to about this cram and hopefully she’s not too freaked out by life in cincinnati.  but it’s hard.
